i don't want to jinx it...

but I think we have officially been admitted into the "potty-trained" club.

Admission to this club was hard to come by, as they have very strict standards. After months {and months} of applying, we finally got our acceptance letter this week. Thankfully, the club understands the capabilities of its members, and is willing to allow a few "accidents" without kicking us out. We look forward to the day when we receive our official club badge {or whatever}.

Over the summer we began the potty training process & Jboy caught on pretty quickly. For about 3 weeks he was going on the potty {for pee, anyway} pretty exclusively. Then school started. I guess with the change in schedule & trying to get used to the new environment, the pottying went by the wayside. I'll fully admit that I should've re-started the process a lot sooner, but I... well, there's not really any excuse, I just didn't. So, a few weeks ago I decided it was time to begin again. We pretended that we'd never done it before & just started from scratch. Jboy spent a lot of time nekkid and we'd set the timer for about 30 minutes & every time it beeped he'd sit on the potty. We'd party like crazy if he went & he'd get Skittles or m&ms. Then we graduated to wearing big boy undies around the house & so on.

Monday the only thing we had to do was run an errand to WalMart, so I let him wear undies while we were out. I was pretty apprehensive about it & probably asked him 90 times during our 30 minute visit if he needed to pee. He stayed dry the whole time. I thought about sending him to school in undies on Tuesday, but chickened out. I hated the thought of the teachers having to change his clothes & deal with the mess if he had an accident.

Wednesday morning rolls around and as I'm getting him ready for school I realize we're out of pullups. Ack! The only one we had was in his school bag with his change of clothes. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I just told him we were out of diapers & that he had to wear big boy undies to school. We talked several times before I dropped him off about making sure to tell Mrs. Robyn & Ms. Cheryl if he needed to use the potty. The whole time he was at school I was worried about how he'd do. He actually did really well... until about 5 minutes before school was out, then he had an accident. But I was super proud of him for staying dry that long!

Thursday he didn't have any accidents at all! At school or home! Friday he did have a #2 accident, but I'm wondering if it's because the Comcast guy was here & he was a little thrown off by that.

We had a long day today, we left the house at 8:30 and didn't get home until after 4:00 and he did great all day! He used the potty while we were out & about and didn't have a single accident!

Though I'm ridiculously excited to put the diaper phase behind us {except for nap & night time}, I have to admit I'm a little sad. My baby's not a baby anymore. He's a big boy now.

Wow, that turned out to be really long. If you stayed through the whole thing... you deserve a badge too!

spring is in the air!

We ventured outside for a bit this afternoon as the weather was nice. Jboy rode his bike, pulled his wagon & played golf in the backyard. I am so looking forward to Spring & warmer weather. It seems that each week we have a couple more days when you can just feel Spring in the air. It's been too long since I posted pics of the youngin' {I can almost hear my parents nodding their heads} so I decided to take the camera out with us.

Look, Mommy! A school bus!

Riding along in my automobile. Errrr.... on my tricycle!

I couldn't get the boy to give a real smile for anything so I guess this will have to do!

Today was parent/teacher conference at Jboy's school. We were very pleased to hear that he's still doing well and will definitely be ready to move up to the 3 year old class next year. Here are some of the comments from his teacher:

Student Strengths: Jonathan is a very bright boy. He does a great job using his manners (yes ma'am, thank you, etc.) He sits attentively during circle time. Jonathan not only recognizes his name, he recognizes all of his friends' names.

I can't even begin to say how happy I am to see this. To know that he's polite & kind to his teachers and friends makes me so proud.

Recommendations: Keep doing what you are doing! Jonathan is doing a great job! You could start talking with Jonathan about words and letters as you see signs, labels, etc. while you are driving, grocery shopping, etc.

This one made me laugh a little. Jboy is always reading letters on signs, buildings, and anything else we come across. You'd think he knows how to read the word "Wal*Mart" because he'll spell it out when we pull in the parking lot & say, that's Wal*Mart. I heard about some books called BOB Books from a teacher/friend at Jboy's school. Apparently they're very good for helping children learn to read. Now, I certainly don't think he's ready to read full on books, but he obviously enjoys finding letters & naming them for us. These might be a fun thing to get to help start the process.

Well, that's all I've got for now.

Marked by Love

I've posted before about the beautiful custom jewelry at Lisa Leanord Designs. Right now she's doing a giveaway for a new piece called Marked by Love {Audrey's Necklace}. This necklace was inspired by the story of Audrey Caroline, the sweet baby girl of Angie & Todd Smith.

I would love to win this necklace as a token for the three angel babies we have waiting for us in Heaven. I think of them often.

The Help

As I've mentioned in the past, Rebecca and I are on a quest to attend as many book signings/readings as we can. In the past year we've been to events for Jodi Picoult and Ree Drummond aka The Pioneer Woman. I've been an avid reader since childhood and love that we can meet some of our favorite authors this way.

Recently, thanks to Rebecca & Lisa, I began reading a new {to me} book review blog that's written by a friend of Lisa's. From the first time I read Babbette's Book Blog, I was hooked. I'm always on the lookout for new books, and I love reading reviews. Several weeks ago Babbette aka Elisabeth posted about an author event coming up for the book, The Help. I already had it on my to read list, but it was instantly moved to #1. Rebecca & I made plans to attend so I ran out & bought the book.

Can I just say, I loved it! I don't think I could do the book justice, so head over to Babbette's & read her review. Then, go get yourself a copy & get to reading!

I think I was more excited about this reading/signing than I had been for the other two. The Help is Kathryn Stockett's first novel, and I couldn't wait to meet her & hear her talk about the book.

Of course we had to document the event with pictures. This first one is taken before the event started. We were expecting a larger crowd than there ended up being, so we got there pretty early. The lady sitting in front of us was kind enough to take our picture. She looked so familiar to me & it turns out she's the "storytime" lady from our library branch!

Rebecca & I with the author, Kathryn Stockett. She was so sweet & so petite. Hey, that rhymed.

The proud owners of autographed books.

Elisabeth aka Babbette & her husband, Scott were there so we were able to meet them. I really enjoyed chatting with them. Rebecca & I dubbed ourselves "Babbette's Fan Club". We're going to get t-shirts made! ;oD

My friend Tennille was also there so it was nice to see her as well. She's due to have a baby boy in July & I'm so excited for her & her husband, Chawn.

We're now on the lookout for our next event, and I can't wait until we find something!

On the road again...

What road, you ask? The road to a healthier life. I decided to start a new blog to journal my progress on this journey. Check it out...

Baby Got Fat

Don't you love the name? Rebecca get's all the credit for that one. ;o)

a boy and his daddy

Tonight Last night was "Dad's Dessert Night" at Jboy's school. Chris & Jboy had both been looking forward to it probably all year. Before they left, I decided to snap a few pictures of my favorite boys.

These pictures will definitely be going in the scrapbook. I love the relationship the two of them have. The woman that God has chosen to be Jonathan's wife will be very lucky to have him. He's learning from the best! I am so thankful that Chris is such a good example to Jboy as to how a man should treat his family. I know Jboy will be a better man for it.

I love my boys!

artwork

Look at what Jboy can do!

Here, he's written his "name"! Seriously?! My kid's a genius. LOL No, really, I'm super impressed with his letter writing abilities. I hadn't even thought to ask him to write any letters, thinking he was too young. But the other day in the bath he was playing with some new bath markers so I asked him to write his name & started spelling it for him. Lo & behold he could actually write a few of the letters. Holy cow! Preschool is awesome! I certainly can't take any credit for this new skill.

Jboy's has a new favorite cartoon. Team Umizoomi on Nickelodeon. I should seriously try to get video of him when the show comes on. He gets all excited & starts singing along with the theme song. Super cute. Chris' aunt Bevvy's birthday is this week, so I asked Jboy if he'd like to draw her a picture as a gift. He decided to draw a picture of Geo from Team Umizoomi. Click HERE to see a picture of Geo. I think he did a pretty fantastic job! ;0)

We'll have to put together more pieces for his portfolio & post them for y'all to see. Stay tuned!

a little something creative

This past Saturday was all day scrapping day at Jenni's. Jenni, Laurel, Rebecca, Stephanie and I had a great time. There were a lot of laughs and great food, not to mention creative juices flowing. Usually when we get together for one of these all day scraps I am not terribly productive. If I can make one page in a 14 hour period it's a good day. This day, however, my mojo was in full force. First, I altered a picture frame for Chris (I haven't taken photos of it yet). Once I was finished with that I wasn't really sure what to work on. Then Jenni pulled out an address book she had made by altering a composition book. I was instantly inspired! I've been wanting to make some sort of address book for some time but couldn't quite decide how I wanted to do it. I ran out to Target, picked one up (for the bargain price of $.70!) and rushed back to get started. I love how it turned out.

Stephanie was kind enough to use her Cricut to cut out the tabs for the letters.

I've already started filling it out and I love it! My next project is going to be another altered composition book to keep track of the books I read & maybe write a little review or something. I'm itching to get started, so Jboy & I may have to run up to WalMart when he wakes up from his nap.
